Major disaster relief: Katrina

We decided to help the children of misplaced families. We collected over 100,000 specialty items from all over the US and Canada. We had over 300 volunteers. We opened a day care center at Kelly AFB and gave away over 1,100 School-Ready Backpacks stuffed with grade and gender appropriate supplies and toys to Louisiana school children in our area.

Christmas ER Toy Drive

We will be looking for any volunteers who would like to take some toys to their neighborhood ER on Christmas Eve. We take toys to hospitals to be dropped off in the middle of the night by Santa’s Helpers (nurses and doctors) to every child who spends Christmas Eve at the hospital. Last year we delivered toys to 9 hospitals.

Opportunities for service

  • Help coordinate, organize, sponsor and volunteer for events.
  • Bible study or book study leaders at the senior center.
  • Collect the donations for one month and deliver to FGCC.
  • Mentoring opportunities.

In this occassion, we took out food to the needy families. This is an annual event: next will be in April of 2009
